FAQ Protect

Do you have questions about the Gazelle app or the data subscription? You can find the answers to the most frequently asked questions about the Gazelle app here.

Protect explained

With a Protect e-bike, you can cycle with peace of mind. Your e-bike comes with a built-in GPS tracker as standard. Combine this with a data subscription and you will always know where your bike is. And thieves? They'll think twice! There is an icon on the frame indicating that a GPS is installed, but the tracker itself is, of course, invisibly concealed.

Your Protect e-bike has a built-in GPS tracker. When you buy such an e-bike, you take out a data subscription and activate it in the Gazelle app. From that moment on, you can see exactly where your e-bike is. And if you want extra security, activate the theft protection via the app. If your e-bike unexpectedly moves, you'll get an immediate alert on your phone.

A selected number of e-bikes are equipped with Gazelle Protect. On this page, you can find all the models that have this as standard. Because the GPS tracker is seamlessly built-in, it is not possible to purchase Gazelle Protect separately for another e-bike.

Yes, you can! The Gazelle app gives you useful insights into your e-bike's data, such as its live location. You can also easily activate the theft protection via the app. If your e-bike unexpectedly moves, you'll receive an immediate notification. This way, you're always up-to-date.

Yes, you can resell your Protect e-bike. Please note the following steps:

  1. Hand over the activation card or code to the buyer.

  2. Remove the e-bike from your account in the Gazelle app by clicking on 'Details' and then 'Remove bike' at the bottom.

  3. If you have a bicycle insurance policy, cancel it.

Yes, a Protect e-bike has Bluetooth. This allows the Gazelle app to give you insights into the bike's data when you are nearby.

Your smartphone must be paired once via Bluetooth. This can be done via the Bluetooth info card or by tapping 'Details > Bluetooth'. Then follow the steps via the 'Set up Bluetooth' button. Once successful, you will automatically connect when you are near your bike.

If you don't want the app to connect to your bike via Bluetooth, you can turn it off on the 'Bike' tab via 'Details > Bluetooth'.

With Gazelle Protect and Gazelle Connect, you can cycle with peace of mind. The GPS tracker? It's already built-in. The difference lies in the freedom you choose. With Connect, everything is arranged for you in the first year, including data. With Protect, you are in control from day one and can choose the data subscription that you want.

This can be seen by the icon on the bike. If there is a yellow icon with a lock and the text 'GPS-Connected', your e-bike falls under Gazelle Connect. If you only see this yellow icon without any text, it falls under Gazelle Protect.

Data subscription

You need a data subscription to see the location of your e-bike and receive notifications when the bike is moved.

There are also some functions that you can already use in the app without a data subscription, such as viewing your battery percentage, range, and speed when you are connected to the bike via Bluetooth, and the contact details of your Gazelle dealer.

  • 1 year: £34.95

  • Renewal is £34.95 per year.

As soon as your data subscription expires, certain functions in the Gazelle app will stop working. For example, you will no longer be able to use real-time tracking or theft protection, as these require an active data connection.

You can easily renew your data subscription for a period of 12 months. Approximately 30 days before your subscription expires, you will automatically receive a notification in the app. From that moment on, you can immediately purchase a new one.

If you do not renew the subscription within 6 months, the app will disable the functions that require a data connection. After that, renewal is unfortunately no longer possible, and your data connection and GPS tracker will be permanently deactivated. This cannot be undone.

You will receive a notification in the Gazelle app 30 days in advance.

No, your subscription does not renew automatically. You must always confirm a renewal yourself via the Gazelle app.

  1. Wait until you receive a notification that your data subscription is about to expire.

  2. Open the Gazelle app on your smartphone.

  3. Go to the app's home screen and tap the notification.

  4. Follow the on-screen steps to renew your subscription.

We work with several insurance companies and offer anti-theft infrastructure via our app. Unfortunately at the moment, none of them are active in the UK. However, you can just get a normal insurance policy through your dealer or online.
